How to Spot a Fake Saeyang Marathon Nail Drill

Every November the same thing happens: marketplaces fill up with "Saeyang Marathon" drills at prices that look too good to be true — because they are. The Marathon name is one of the most copied in the nail world, and a copy that looks right in a photo can behave very differently on a client's nail.

Here's how to check a listing before you pay — using Saeyang's own published specs, not guesswork.

1. Check the Price Against the Real UK Price

A Black Friday discount can take a real set below these prices — but not to a small fraction of them. A "Marathon Champion" at a price closer to a cheap hobby drill is not a deal on a genuine Saeyang.

2. Check the Model and Handpiece Codes

Genuine listings name a real Saeyang control unit (Champion, Mighty, K35, Escort III, ECO 450, K38 PRO, K48 PRO, N7…) and a real handpiece code. Saeyang's handpiece codes include:

• H200, H35LSP (also listed as SDE-H35SP1 / H35SP1), H37LSP
• SH20N, SH30N, SH37LN, SH300
• BS30, BS35 (cordless brushless), M40ES, BM50S1

A listing that says only "Marathon" or "Marathon 3 professional" with no handpiece code, or mixes model names that don't exist, is a warning sign.

3. Check the Specs Against Saeyang's Official Figures

Saeyang publishes speed, torque, weight and size for every handpiece. Copies often get these wrong — or quote numbers that no genuine Saeyang handpiece has.

Two common giveaways:

• An H200 advertised at 35,000 rpm or more. The genuine H200 tops out at 30,000 rpm.
• Cheap nail-tech sets advertised at 45,000–50,000 rpm. Saeyang's 50,000 rpm units in the UK are clinic and prosthetic machines (like the Handy 700 and Multi 600 with the BM50S1) costing over £1,000 — not a £60 "Champion".

If the drill has already arrived, a kitchen scale is a surprisingly good test: a genuine H35LSP handpiece weighs about 210g, an H200 about 150g.

4. Check the Seller, Warranty and Returns

• UK address and returns policy you can actually use
• A written warranty — genuine Marathon sets from Coheal come with a 12-month distributor warranty
• Clear photos of the real product and box, not only manufacturer marketing images
• An EAN / product code you can match to the model

Marketplace sellers with no UK presence, no warranty terms and stock photos only are the highest risk.

5. Check What's in the Box

Know what the genuine set includes. For example, Marathon 3 Champion sets include the control unit, handpiece, foot pedal, silicone handpiece stand, power supply (EU plug with UK adapter) and manual. Why It Matters

A nail drill is an electrical device held against a client's skin for hours a week. The reasons to pay for a genuine Marathon are the ones you can't see in a photo: a motor that holds its speed under load, low vibration, bearings that last, electrical safety, and a warranty if something goes wrong.
